Jozef Poniatowski Circle Pendant

Unit price  per

This beautiful circle pendant depicts Prince Jozef Poniatowski, the Polish commander who fought with distinction under Napoleon. The nephew of King Stanislaw Augustus of Poland, Poniatowski led the army of the Duchy of Warsaw to victory over Austria in the Battle of Racszyn in 1809. He led 100,000 Poles in the Russian campaign and fought at Borodino.

On the first day of the Battle of Leipzig on 16 October 1813, Napoleon gave Poniatowski a Marshal's baton, making him the only non-Frenchman among Napoleon's marshals. Unfortunately Poniatowski was only able to enjoy his new distinction for three days. Covering the retreat from Leipzig on 19 October, he was heavily wounded and drowned while attempting to swim across the River Elster. He is remembered as a Polish national hero and is buried in Krakow's Wawel Cathedral.

A custom engraving option is available to make it an extra special gift for yourself or a loved one.
