This mug is part of our matryoshka collection inspired by Russian nesting dolls. This design features General Matvei Platov, the commander of the Don Cossack cavalry during the Napoleonic Wars. A dashing romantic figure, Ataman Platov and his Don Cossacks captured the imagination of European society and many commemorative items were produced in honour of the Cossacks. During a visit to London in 1814, Platov was even awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Law by Oxford University
