Mikhail Barclay de Tolly was a Russian general of Scottish descent best known for planning and implementing the famous scorched earth strategy in 1812. He went on to take command the Russian forces in the War of the Sixth Coalition (1813-14), leading the Russians into Paris in March 1814.
