This poster features an original design of Prince Pyotr Bagration on horseback in the style of a Russian Orthodox icon. A protege of Alexander Suvorov, Bagration was the commander of the Russian Second Army during Napoleon's invasion of 1812 and had previously fought with distinction against Napoleon's Grande Armée in 1805 and 1807.
A Georgian prince, he was one of the best loved generals in the Russian army and was nicknamed Бог рати он (Bog rati on) or 'God of the Army.' He was mortally wounded during the Battle of Borodino in September 1812. For more about Prince Bagration, please take a look at our blog post.
