Mikhail Miloradovich was one of the Russian army's leading generals in the latter stages of the Napoleonic Wars. He fought at Borodino and led the vanguard of Kutuzov's army as it pursued the Grande Armée. His flamboyance and bravery earned him the nickname the Russian Murat. As Governor of St Petersburg in 1825, he was assassinated during the Decembrist Uprising.
