Description:
This mug is part of our matryoshka collection inspired by Russian nesting dolls. This particular mug depicts one of the most controversial figures of the Napoleonic era: King Charles XIV John of Sweden, otherwise known as Marshal Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte.
After a mixed record as a Marshal of France, Bernadotte was elected heir to the childless Swedish king in 1810 and took the name Charles John. The design is based on Bernadotte's uniform as Crown Prince of Sweden, when he commanded the Army of the North against Napoleon in 1813.
