Behold: His Grace, the Duck of Wellington. The design for this duck mug is based on the uniform the Duke of Wellington wore at the Battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815. Waterloo was the most famous battle of Wellington's career, where the British field marshal defeated Napoleon alongside his Prussian allies.
After his military career, Wellington embarked on a successful political career which saw him serve as Prime Minister from 1828 to 1830. His conservative politics gave him the nickname 'Iron Duke.' During this period Wellington's leading political opponent was Earl Grey, who succeeded him as Prime Minister between 1830 and 1834. A liberal, Grey's signature political achievement was the Great Reform Act of 1832, but he is even better known for being the namesake of Earl Grey tea. The caption on this mug makes reference to the political rivalry between the two men.
