Field Marshal Alexander Suvorov is regarded as the greatest ever commander in Russian history. After a career of campaigning against the Poles and the Ottomans, Suvorov famously led a campaign in Italy in 1799, defeating several French revolutionary generals and helping Russia's Austrian allies re-establish control of Italy.
