Marshal Etienne Jacques MacDonald was a French soldier of Scottish ancestry named Marshal of France by Napoleon following the Battle of Wagram in 1809. A capable general, he fought well in the campaign of 1813 in spite of his defeat at the Katzbach, and distinguished himself in the defence of France in 1814.
