This fun poster features designs of Emperor Penguin Napoleon, the Duck of Wellington, and 'Elefant Vorwärts,' Prince Blücher. The poster features quotes by Napoleon, Wellington, and Blücher about the Battle of Waterloo.
In the morning of the battle, Napoleon dismissed the caution of his generals and said that Wellington is a bad general and the British army was poor. He added, 'The affair is nothing more than eating breakfast.'
In the event, after a fierce battle, it was Wellington and his Prussian ally Blücher who had Napoleon for dinner. At the end of the battle, Blücher warmly embraced Wellington with the words, 'Mein lieber Kamerad! Quelle affaire! (My dear comrade! What a business!)
Following the battle, Wellington said to Thomas Creevy in Brussels, "It has been a damned serious business... Blücher and I have lost 30,000 men. It has been a damned nice thing — the nearest run thing you ever saw in your life. … By God! I don't think it would have been done if I had not been there."
