This eco-friendly tote bag features our artwork of the Napoleonic eagle and the Napoleonic bee, both key symbols of the Napoleonic Empire.
Eagles were synonymous with Napoleon and his army. Inspired by the eagles of the Roman empire, the eagle crowned the flagpole of Napoleonic battle standards. Officers and men would make great sacrifices to prevent their eagles from being captured by the enemy. Likewise, they were immensely prestigious trophies of war for Napoleon's enemies.
Bees were an important part of Napoleon's imperial insignia. Napoleon believed that the Emperor Charlemagne had used the bee as an imperial symbol (it was in fact a cicada), and also chose the bee as it symbolised industriousness and hard work.
The artwork is made by Ami Badran, a freelance artist based in Amman, Jordan. She enjoys illustrating history inspired art and creating comics. Follow Ami on Twitter at @Tookunami. Check out Ami's other designs on her collection page.
