This print features a text art design based on George Dawe's painting of Russian general Mikhail Barclay de Tolly in the Winter Palace's Military Gallery of 1812. A Baltic German with Scottish ancestry, Barclay served as Minister of War before Napoleon's invasion before becoming de facto commander in chief of the Russian army. He played a major part in planning and implementing the famous scorched earth strategy in 1812 and is one of the most decorated Russian generals in history. The design includes the names of more than a hundred Russian generals and the major battles the Russian army fought between 1812 and 1815.
