This circle pendant necklace shows Lemuel Francis Abbott's iconic painting of Admiral Horatio Nelson. Universally regarded as the greatest naval commander in British history, Nelson won spectacular victories at the Nile (1800), Copenhagen (1801), and Trafalgar (1805), where he was mortally wounded by an enemy sharpshooter.
The portrait shows Nelson wearing his uniform as Vice Admiral of the Blue squadron with the Ottoman Order of the Star and Crescent and the Sicilian Order of St Ferdinand and of Merit on his chest. His bicorne is decorated with the chelengk, an Ottoman military decoration awarded to naval commanders.
