This beautiful necklace pendant features an image of Queen Louise of Prussia. Born Louise of Mecklenberg-Strelitz in 1776, she married Crown Prince Frederick William in 1793 and became Queen upon her husband's succession as King Frederick William III in 1797.
Regarded as Europe's most beautiful woman, during the Napoleonic Wars she was an outspoken opponent of Napoleon and was very popular among the Prussian people. During negotiations for the Treaty of Tilsit in 1807, she attempted in vain to persuade Napoleon to give more favourable terms to Prussia. Although she was unsuccessful, for her efforts Napoleon described her as 'the only man in Prussia.'
Louise had nine children with Frederick William, including future kings of Prussia Frederick William IV and William I. She died in 1810 at the age of 34, leaving the King heartbroken.
