On the eve of the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815, Blücher had promised to come to Wellington's aid at the battle. During the day, with his line under heavy pressure from the French assault, Wellington looked to his west seeking the main body of the Prussian army and remarked "Give me night or give me Blücher."

Blücher and his Prussians did arrive onto the battlefield in large numbers by evening. Late in the night, Blücher met Wellington at the inn of La Belle Alliance and embraced him with the words "Mein lieber Kamerad! Quelle affaire!"
